Greetings Scott,

Phillips Wharf Environmental Center needs your help.  As you may already know, we are a local not-for-profit with a mission to educate people, particularly children, about what lives in and around the Bay and how to help protect its inhabitants.

At Phillips Wharf Environmental Center (PWEC) we offer a series of activities aimed at both youth and adult audiences.  The Center is open Thursday through Monday during the spring, summer, and fall.  Live specimens are on display to observe—some even to touch.  The Center is located in the last crabbing shanty on Knapps Narrows, in Tilghman and is a great place to bring children and grandchildren.

In 2009, the Center acquired a mobile classroom, the “Fishmobile.”  This converted bookmobile enables PWEC to bring specimens to schools and public events.  We provide hands-on education to encourage learners to get their hands dirty and their minds open.  In 2011, the Fishmobile had over 9,000 visitors.

In 2011 Phillips Wharf Environmental Center became a Marylanders Grow Oysters Site and formed Tilghman Islanders grow Oysters a citizen science program that involved our neighbors putting oyster cages off their docks and caring for the oysters for 9 months.

On June 9th with the help of many volunteers we planted 47 bushels of baby oysters onto a sanctuary oyster bar in Harris Creek.
The mission and vision at Phillips Wharf Environmental Center is to Inform, Inspire and involve others to take action and help protect the Bay and its inhabitants.  We take our mission seriously by offering a series of learning programs for adults and children of various ages for details about our educational programs and excursions check us out at www.pwec.org

During the winter months we sponsor a series of learning events for adults regarding environmental matters relating to our community.

On August 4th, Phillips Wharf Environmental Center will hold its 3rd Annual major fund-raising event, Pennies from Heaven a Dinner and Auction, followed by dancing to Three Penny Opera at the Tilghman Fire Hall.  To make this event a success we would appreciate your Sponsorship.  Participating Sponsors will be acknowledged and noted in our advertisement before, during and after the event.
We are offering a choice of three levels for gala sponsors:  Silver $250, Gold $500, or Platinum $750.  Publicity for businesses will be given for those who sponsor this August 4th event.

Discounted tickets for the event can be purchased for $35.00 each through July 4th and $40.00 each after or until we are sold out.  Information and ticket sales can be made online at www.pwec.org.

We do hope you consider supporting the Phillips Wharf Environmental Center for this event.

Thank you,

Kelley Phillips Cox
